My Great-Uncle Walter's pension record states he suffered
"Nervous breakdown caused by being buried by shellfire; also ICT....(unreadable due to burn mark)..leg by same cause. February 1918. Rheumatism caused, general privation"
Does anybody know what ICT stands for?
My Great-Uncle George was invalided out of the Navy in July 1914 as a result of deafness, yet I was told he served on the Western Front - would a deaf man have been conscripted?
Britain declared war shortly after Great-Uncle George left the navy. My bet is that either his deafness was short term, ie, it was cured in some way, or he enlisted in the army by lying about his hearing and got through the medical somehow. That might explain why he did not re-join the navy, where he might have been exposed. Deafness is often a matter of degree, so he may have had some hearing.
Conscription was not introduced until 1916, and they would not have knowingly taken a deaf soldier in to service.
Can't help you on 'ICT', I am afraid.
Hello tucuxii,
I am not sure of it, but IΒ΄ve found the following link via google:
As for "ICT" has been used in WWI, I rather would assume that it means "Infantry Combat Training".
Thanks for the link
I found it under the medical definitions - "inflammation of connective tissue"
