Hmm - I couldn't register under my old name, but whatever.

Could anyone recommend any good books on the Pacific campaign in WWII?

I'm particularly interested in the battles for Saipan, Iwo Jima and Okinawa, also the fighting in New Guinea, especially the ANZAC role in that battle.

    Hi,

I'd be interested to know that too, just started reading "Shockwave" by Stephen Walker, which deals with the issues of using the A-Bomb on Hiroshima, covers all the testing of the bomb, "justification" compared to using ground troops on the home Islands, US and Japanese perspectives etc.

Only read the prologue and 1st chapter but so far so good.

    clankylad.

There are some very good Australian ,American and Dutch websites which give a very good account ( many of them participants interviews) of the military actions in that particular theatre of the World War2.

For New Guinea try a shot at:
    Tweedewereldoorlog azie.startkabel/

The Australians and Dutch (K.N.I.L) forces did give the Japs a very hard time.

Check the homepage and then select the English language version.

Other websites to try is log onto Google and type in World War 2 Pacific .

I totally forgot about the Dutch contribution, which I'm sure I'd also find interesting. Especially given that they were fighting at the other side of the world, for a country that was under occupation!
