Re: message 95 in the Why did TURKEY come off the fence thread
Dear Andrew
I received an e-mail yesterday in which it said that my message 95 was pulled because it might offend the contributors in some way. Be it understood that I never intended to offend any of the contributors or harm the interests of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ. But I am at a loss; I simply do not see how my message could offend any of the contributors. The problem is that your e-mail was too general to identify the sticking point.
I ask you as a gentleman: tell me the reason why my message was pulled and who I might have offended.
Regards,
Poldertijger

Hi Poldertijger,
The best thing to do is to reply to the message you recieved and the Mods will get back to you.
It's not immediately obvious from my end why it was pulled.
Cheers
Andrew

Hi
On seeing this "why have you pulled my article" query, I am reminded of something similar that happened to me when the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ were stilll collecting items for the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Peoples War Archives.
I am talking about their policy on the use of swear words.
Like many other websites of this type, postings were put through a pre-scanning process before being accepted and certain "swear" words were strictly taboo.
I had just posted a piece about my tank commander "Busty" Thomas
Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ - WW2 People's War - Diary Entries 11th April 1945
To to my surprise it was rejected by the moderators because I had used the word "bxxxxxd". This despite the fact that "bxxxxxd" was in every dictionary and had been used to quote an actual remark made by the aforesaid "Busty", my Tank Commander at the time in question.
I received an e-mail from the Moderators that said if I used asterisks (as in "BxxxxxxS) the article would then be accepted.
I settled for this and the piece was duly allowed on site until, almost a year later, I was browsing through the recent postings and noticed that more and more people were using the dreaded word and, more importantly, getting away with it !
I wrote to the Moderators and was told that the Bebe had decided to adopt a more relaxed view on the subject, to which I replied "Please can I have my BxxxxxD back ?
I am pleased to report that Busty's actual words are now preserved for posterity

Come to think of it, what a drawdown for the military board this is. Huge layers of the history of conflicts are guaranteed not to make it here for this very reason.

Quite, will future generations be able to read Beatty's remark
"There seems to be something wrong with our b****y ships to day"
Actually perhaps we have already been conned.Perhaps Nelson said said something stronger and more colourful than "'I really do not see the signal"

Perhaps Nelson said said something stronger and more colourful than "'I really do not see the signal"Β Exactly. One episode comes to mind: at Borodino in 1812, Russian General Bagration defending flank fortifications reportedly yelled "Bravo!" at Davout's infantry fiercely assaulting Bagration's positions. I would think that a normal person would rather yell something like "@#*~!!!" Go figure.
