Hi, I have recently received the service record for my father, and whilst it is interesting, unfortunately it didn't give me the information I wanted to find. My father initially was in the Territorials in 1939, then joined the RASC 536 Coy. He spent the next 4 years in England at various places as a driver and then a fitter. In June 1944 he was appointed to a commission and promoted to Lieutenant in Nov. 1944, just prior to embarkation to Italy. He seems to have been with the 309 Company RASC (C.Tpt) initially, posted to 12 MPFC. He seems to have been operating with a casualty clearing station, if I read the record correctly. Later he was with 352 Company RASC (G. Tpt). In Nov. 1945 he was sent to Austria before he was discharged from the service in April 1946, with the rank of captain.

The information I had hoped I would find in his service record, relates to roughly where he was serving whilst in Italy and Austria. I have a feeling he was somewhere near Turin at one time, as he befriended a family there who kept in contact for a number of years after the war was over. However, as I was only a child then, I wasn't told anything much about what he did.

If anyone has any knowledge of where the RASC were operating at this time, or can suggest where I might find out this information , I would appreciate any help with this. Rokeby

The RASC (Royal Army Service Corps or laughingly translated to Run Away Someones Coming) were deployed where ever the Army was deployed. in 1965 they were almalgamted into the Royal Corps of Transport. In turn they were almalgamted into the Royal Logistic Corps in 1993.

You could contact the RLC and they might be able to help or the RASCRCT Association. Their website is
