I don't know if anyone on here can help me. I am looking for anyone who served with 54 Operational Training Unit Royal Air Force based at RAF East Moor and who knew my late Uncle Flt/Sgt navigator Sidney Whiting. he was killed in a training accident on 10 January 1946 whilst navigating in a Mosquito NF30. Any information or help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Faro.
I would be fairly certain that 54 OTU has an Association which will hold service records for your father. You could start by Googling 54 Operational Training Unit. My apologies if you have already done that and drawn a blank. Another approach would be to contact the RAF Association.
Faro,
This site shows several crashes involving Mosquito's from 54 OTU at East Moor in 1946. The first is, however, 29th Jan rather than 10th Jan. Are you sure about the date?
Further to my earlier messages, I found this: Hope it helps! (my dad was RAF deceased too!)
