I wonder if anyone knows anything about the use of the Caledonian Canal during WWI?

I know that the Americans were shipping 1500 mines a week through the canal, operating through the night for the first time on the canal.

There is a Sapper from Royal Engineers Inland Water Transport section buried near the canal so I am wondering whether they were working with the Americans or whether the British services were also using it heavily.

Also someone has been asking about a member of the Army Service Corps who served in Fort William in 1918. Again I am wondering if they were supplying Motor Transport support to these operations or possibly could have been doing the same for a military hospital nearby.
