Hello - I am doing some research on the use of bicycles in WW2 both by armed forces and civlian resistance in occupied Europe.
I would love to hear from anyone who has a particular memory of bicycles in this context - either as a witness to an event or directly using a bicycle - a paratrooper, medic or member of the resistance
Many thanks
A friend of mine back in the 60s used to have one of those folding motorbikes that was issued to the airborne troops. Top speed was about 25mph.

I believe this might be the beasty:
Weren't the Japanese troops in Malaya equipped with bikes, and was the reason why they were able to advance so quickly down the peninsula?
Billy that be the beast. Oh and there was a story that during the advance down Malaya, the Jap forces all had no tyres on the bikes, and the Opposing forces decided that the sound they could hear was approaching tanks. A myth??
Try getting hold of a copy of `The Bicycle in Wartime' by Jim Fitzpatrick, published by Brassey's in 1998: ISBN 1-57488-157-4.
I beleive that there were British troops using bicycles in the 1st World War - my Great Uncle belonged to one of these regiments.
Kind Regards - TA
