  Spot-on Stalt.
  
  The problem with 'warlite' is that there is never a sufficient density of troops to prevent the local kids eating your 'Hearts and Minds' sweets one minute, and then going back to the scene, and laying an IED to get you tomorrow.
  
  Someone out there knows who is planting the IEDs. They need to to be questioned more often, as happened in NI when this sort of thing became endemic.
  
  IEDs can be tripped, pressure plated, 'mobiled' (if there is a local cell network), gauss-sensitive, or set-off with hard-wires or signals from RC devices like the ones for your model helicopter. The latter are easily jammed.
  
  Metal detectors will detect metal parts but if the bomb consists of plastic explosive, a tiny detonator and a few pounds of broken glass, it might escape detection.
  
  Our strategy in Afghanistan is utterly nuts.
  
  The stables are filthy and corrupt from top to bottom but we continue to deal with a man who controls less than 7% of the surface area of his supposed 'nation'. (It is an odd nation which has no common language)
  
  Time for a radical re-think...
