Hi my father Albert Ault was stationed in Gibralta during world war 2. A family relative who joined up with my father, made me chuckle. My Dad died in 1979 sadly I didnt see much of him prior as he had remarried after my parents divorcing.
According to the relative my dad was so keen to go and fight. But he was stationed in Gibralta and all of his friends kept telling him he was going to fight the monkeys on the rock. Apparently this really wound my dad up, but i am pleased he went to Gibralta. I know he was in the Royal Artillery and Gibralta went through some errendos Air and sea attacks but he came through it.

    SUE AULT

I think you are confusing GibraltER with Malta.
I do not think anyone bombed Gib.
And the 'monkeys' were Barbary Apes.

yes I know the monkeys are Barbary Apes but it appears my dads friends and my dad in the war years were unaware of this. Friends have not long come back from Gibralta and tell me there are loads of Barbary apes on the Rock. Not Malta.
Double checked on internet and it is known as the Rock of Gibralta. Many thanks
