Was listening to RTE the other day, an article about a family from Loughrea in Co Galway, name Furey, where 10 sons had enlisted and gone off to France. There was confirmation that 6 of them were killed in action, possibly even a seventh.
Due to the political situation in Ireland losses at the front were not always acknowledged.
Up to now this dubious accolade had supposedly been held by a family in England where 5 sons had been lost.
Did anyone else hear this broadcast or know anything further about this having happened.

    Hi Kaido,
I'll have a look tomorrow at our town's war memorial which, I am sure, indicates a number of families with multiple losses.
Your post also reminds me about the memorial in Waterford to the people (civilians) returning home from Wales for Christmas (1916?) whose ship was sunk by a German U-boat. What made things worse was that a sister ship followed a couple of days later and suffered the same fate. Again many of the victims were related to each other.

Try the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. They have a website.
