    Hello,
I'm new to this, but overheard a broadcast from a retired Bletchly Park cryptographer. Since Engima was so successful and helpful in 1944, does anybody know why Enigma data wasn't used for Market Garden? Particularly the information about the 9th and 10th SS refitting in the Arnhem area. I think that information would have been critical, and I believe that they MUST have had this data.

The crucial traffic for MARKET GARDEN was the operational-level Army traffic. The codes had been changed at the end of July and were not broken again ubtil the beginning of October. The period of the breakout from Normandy was also an intelligence blackout.

So the Allied High Command knew that 9th and 10th SS Panzer were bady depleted, and 9th was about to return to Germany, but didn't know details of actual deployments.

the allies knew that panzer divisions were in the area as the dutch underground had told them

unfortunately because the dutch underground had been infiltrated the allies distrusted such reports

even more unfortunate was the fact that the allies had at least 4 elite airborne divisions that were twiddling their thumbs in england
they needed to be used and were not toooo choosy to where and when

i saw a documentary in the 70s about ultra and it said that ultra intelligence was saved for the real war winning options

ie we knew exactly where and when crete was going to be invaded but the detail was not acted upon because the real battle at that time was the battle of the u boats in the atlantic
