hi can anyone tell me anything about the agricultural company during the 1stWW what did they do and where were they based my grandad was in the agricultural company as a private he lived in macclesfield
That's not an easy one to answer, lelbel, as there were dozens of such units. They were known as Agricultural Companies of the Labour Corps. They were manned by soldiers of low medical grade (most having been downgraded after wound, sickness or injury) and employed on farms. The agricultural industry had lost a very high proportion of its men to the services and this was a way to provide manpower. For any more detail, you'd need to identify which Agricultural Company it was.
Hi leambull thanks for your help with the Agricultural company the only other info i have is his rank and number , which was private 411
if he was in the army would he have service records and would his number be the same and where would i start looking ?
thank you anyway
