I'm currently beginning research into the 306 British and Commonwealth soldiers executed during World War One. I was wondering if anyone could advise me where the best place would be to look for primary sources about the executions, such as court martial papers etc. I'm not sure I'm completely understanding the National Archive website but I haven't found anything on there at all! Thanks.

Try contacting the Imperial War Museum, in the very unlikely event that they can not help you they will know who can

You may be aware that these executions have been researched in detail. At least three published books on the subject list the primary resources you will need. Possibly the most comprehensive list of resources appears in "Blindfold and alone" by Cathryn Corns and John Hughes-Wilson. It's been printed in paperback and should be easy to track down.

Kipling. He hit the spot all right. Shivers.

Tell them, because our fathers lied.")
