    G'day from Australia
I have just joined this message board, so far I am impressed, I have tried others but this is the best.
Actually I am British, I have resided in Australia since 1955.
In 2007, Aug/Sept my partner and I made our 1st trip to the UK, France, Ireland etc, it was my 1st trip to England since I came to OZ, I suppose better late than never.
I have been a keen reader of WW2 since I was 15 yrs old and have amassed over 400 books on this subject.
One of our first stops on our round the world trip was France and the battlefields of WW2,we stopped at a town named Vimoutiers, near Falaise in Normandy and found the only surviving Tiger tank in France, what a monster compared to the British and American tanks.
Has anybody seen this tank ??
At the present time I am reading the book titled " Dunkirk" Fight to the last man by Hugh Sebag-Montefiore, it is a fascinating read, especially the sacrifices made by the battalions
    of the 2nd & 44th Divisions.
    Any comments ???

    Aussiebrit,

    Welcome to these boards.
As long as we're relatively house-trained the Hosts leave us in peace.

If you think you'd like to speed up the time on probation, you might do worse than join the very friendly atmosphere in the Family Tree's Bar, and if you're more into the wilderness then perhaps History Hub's Bar might suit you.

    Sincerely, Nielsen

    Hi Aussiebrit,

    Welcome to these boards.

I guess I must be one of the three oldest members here. I live in the U.S.A., in the South.

You will find other Aussies here also and Danes like Per who just wrote the other message to you. We also have a Belgian, Paul who is probably an even older member than I.

There is one thing that is common to all of us; we all love some aspect of history.

Andrew Spencer is our resident expert on medieval history; he recently got his Ph.D from Cambridge. And then we have Minette, another member from just before me. She loves Richard III, Charles II and is very well versed in literature, especially Jane Austen.

Contribute when you want and Enjoy!

    Tas

    Hi Tas
Thanks for the welcome,it is great to now that there are other Aussies in the USA that are interested in history, my special area of interest is WW2,I guess after reading about WW2 for 45years I am somewhat an expert I guess.
If you now of anybody who has the same interest it would be great to talk to them.
My partner Carol is very well versed in English literature, especially Jane Austen, Iam sure she would like to hear from Minette

Welcome to these boards, as Tas has pointed out we have one or two history buffs thank god.
But like me one or two who just find history a wonderful thing. And we just enjoy the letters on this board.
