In the progam (recently aired here in California), the SOE is advised by a German soldier that Hitler takes regular morning walks at the Berghof from 9-10AM. In much literature that I have read, Hitler was in the habit of staying up until 4-5AM (with his famous tirades and monologues) and rarely rose before Noon, especially in 1944-45. So I wondered, if this script is based on what was truly stated, if the German soldier then provided false information on purpose.

    Hi sports16,

Having not seen the programme you're referring to I can't comment on its accuracy, but what I have read about Hitler's habits at the Berghof and elsewhere indicates that his daily patterns and routines were an irritating aspect of working closely with him. I think you're right in saying that he rarely got out of bed before noon, then (particularly in the later stages of the war) would read the media cuttings etc brought to him by his secretary Bormann, after which the Situation conferences would take place, then dinner, then frequently a movie, followed by a long rambling monologue until the wee hours when Hitler would finally retire to bed! You can see why his immeadiate entourage found it difficult to follow his strange schedule! As far as long country walks go he did enjoy walking through the woods surrounding the Berghof in the early years of the war, usually accompanied by some of his favourites in the government (as well as numerous bodyguards!) but as the course of the war turned against the Nazis he became increasingly isolated, hiding away in his concrete bunkers and hardly ever venturing outside. This of course was exacerbated after the July 20 plot in 1944.

    Hope that's helpful.
