Hi everyone I'm new to these message boards and was wondering if anyone can recommend some good books about the war in the Far East/ North Africa? I've read a fair bit on the European side (currently reading Speer's memoirs) but am a bit hazy on other areas during WW2.
Far East - "A tenth of an Elephant" or something like that - a mate read it, and discussed it with his father who was in the Burma campaign, and said it was brilliant.
South East Asia:
"Quartered Safe Out Here" George MacDonald Fraser (the Flashman author). Memoir of his time as a L/Cpl in the Border Regiment. One of the best war memoirs written.
"The Unforgettable Army: XIVth Army" Michael Hickey
General history of the Burma campaign, very good on the way the British and Indian Army operated.
"The Longest War: Burma 1941-1945" Louis Allen. Allen was an intelligence officer in Burma and is particularly good on the Japanese side of things.
North Africa:
"Dillemmas of the Desert War" Michael Carver. Carver was a staff officer in 7th Armd Div and XXX Corps throughout. Very good on the senior decision making and logistics.
The Barrie Pitt "Crucible of War" trilogy is also good.
