Does anyone know when Paddy Mayne is getting his well earned VC. I have heard that it's on the table.
I know it was discussed a couple of years back, but haven't heard anything since.
I reckon they're waiting for the release of a biopic movie about him. Wasn't Liam Neeson supposed to be playing him?
He was told of the project but has yet to give a yes or no. He will need to hurry up as even he as a class actor is in his prime and I for one don't want to see an actor trying to put on an ulster accent. It would be fantastic if they could make the movie to a standard such as saving private Ryan. Maybe someone could start a pertition.
Well earned? Why?
I can understand his DSO. But what the rationale for a VC?
(Ignoring the absurdity of awarding a medal 60 years after the event)
JOXER,
Please explain, if you know, why Mayne was not awarded the VC and what was the nature of the prejudice against him at the time.

Joxer -
I have to go along with Lost W/end in asking what - exactly - did Paddy Mayne do anything differently to David Stirling - Roy Farran et al ?? Roy also had a DSO plus three M.C's - he never spoke of any discrimination towards any of them.
I tend to think it's only civvies that put weight into a piece of metal. I never came across a squaddie that did...
Isn't that most of the value of these pieces of metal?
To show that you've been around a bit, and have being fortunate enough to survive - so far!
Thus impressing on civvies how good 'our' mob is compared to the other lot...
Blair Mayne did many things during the war, he should get a vc because he earned it and should be remembered for his heroic acts. David Stirling put Paddy Mayne in full command of the SAS when he was captured. So why should'nt he be given a respecting award such as the vc. You can find out what he did by going onto the Blair Mayne research society on line.
Some say that he did not receive the vc because he struck a commanding officer Colonel Geoff Keyes.
