I would like to urge anyone with an interest in the period to try and obtain a copy of "Journey Among Warriors". I checked book websites in australia and there are still copies about.
For those of you that haven't heard of it, it is a wartime publication by a War Correspondent named Eve Curie, daughter of the inventors of the X-Ray machine. It was probably at least in part to do with her name and station in life that she gained access to people and areas of the war that not many correspondents , let alone women (in that age) were allowed access to. She travelled through Africa, the Middle East, to Moscow and the front (in winter) at about the turn of events with Germanys retreat.
She then went through India to Burma, arriving in Rangoon just days before the surrender. Thats as far as I've got but I believe she gets into Singapore before the surrender as well.
It is just amazing and quite touching in places when studying the hardships and attitudes of the varyious people she meets along the way, from Russion peasants to Generals.
I would love to urge the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ or any film makers to make a documentory, movie or telemovie from it. It would alsobe worth re-printing.
