In my own family research Hywell dda looms large as
the one great king of Wales. We don't dwell too much on it in Welsh history but he was polygamous.
He had 13 wives.
300 years earlier Nial of the nine hostages had 17 wives, at about the same time as one called Mohamed
was developing his family tree in to more of a business like religion, in the middle east.
Was this polygamy caused by any sociological factor such as the lack of boy babes putting man at a considerable premium over woman, or was it more to do with a misconstrued capitalist approach to woman as a "chattel"?
Nial is said in the shape and form of the Donnell family several hundred thousand descendants.
Hywell may have as many as a hundred thousand added to all the Mawr (Morgan) people of his grand father Rhodri Mawr.
Mohamed.... well who knows about Mohamed?
Are there other similarly polygamous sires of Medieval times?
Hi Dai Hy Ba'th
You are probably on the wrong board with these two discussions. Try the History Hub and you will probably get more replies than here. Good luck, they could be interesting discussions.
Awfully sorry I don't know why I put them on war and conflict!
Can you close the thread please? I will copy and paste to history.
