Excuse me, did you say Jocks ?
You mean members of the British Army who are Scottish ?
You are English I suppose, no need to apologise.

just a wee note to over sensitive symberta: No I am not English I am a Scot who has lived away for long enough to appreciate that the term Jock is not derogetory In fact me and many of my fellow country men here refer to ourselves as Jocks. Its a shame that on my first post someone sees the need to jump on a term that only small minded people would take offence to. I hope that future responses to my research will remain within the parameters of the subject and not be taken as an insult. Many thanks from a very proud Jock!!

Well, you must be unique.
I've never heard of any Scotsperson ( I am one too ) voluntarily refer to him or herself as a " Jock " ( unless his name was Jock, or had that epithet conferred on him by colleagues ).
Yuv bin awa fae Scotland farrrr tooooo long, my wee laddie.
Haste ye Back.

if a gentleman by the name of DJ Nicholls reads this or a Mr George Evans, please contact me as I think that Mr Evans may have mentioned my Father in his account of the involvement with the Partizans in Northern Italy

Hi Symberta,
I dont know about civilian life but in the armed forces there is no derogatory meaning to Jock. Its purely a nickname for anyone from scotland and extends from the individual to whole units. Its used by Scots to descibe Scots. In a lot of ways its a badge of honour.
In the same way anyone from wales is "Taff" any one with the surname rhodes is "Dusty" All Wards are "Sharky" Any one called Grey is "Dolly"
