I have just been told that the American General in the Ardennes offensive did not answer 'Nuts' to the surrender demand but 'Sh-t'. If true this illustrates once again the power of those in power to alter history.

It does and they use there every opportunity to carry on over the years. The trouble is they are helped by poor scholarship and laziness by academics.
In my own field, I read Church History. In one well recommended book, on the Stuart Church, I was told that Archbishop Laud was antipathetic towards 'catholics,'. I felt this was foolishness, seeing that the good Archbishop was a Catholic. I followed the notes given and found that the statement was that Laud had a dislike of 'Romanists. Not quite the same thing!

If it isn't true, it shows the power of the internet to spread "sh-t".
Here is a detailed account of the participant and witness, Lt. General Harry Kinard. Beats the daylights of "I heard . . " as a source:
Could some one have conflated the stories of Bastogne and Waterloo, where the famous "Mot de Cambronne" came into existence ?
Or the two-fingered salute at Agincourt?
Betcha Samson killed 1,000 Philistines with the ass-bone of that donkey....
Or maybe he it was the donkey he slew by kicking him in the ... jaw?
not war and conflicts - but what about the most famous quote of all time -
"One small step for man - one giant leap for mankind"
was actually meant to be
"One small step for A man - one giant leap for mankind"
NUTS !!

No it wasn't.
It still goes on, I was reading about a week ago how Brown had made a whole series of silly mistakes answering questions in the Commons. They had all gone when the official version was released.
