This is going to seem like a daft question I am sure but here goes:
My grandfather was killed in 1940 when the pub he frequented (frequently I understand) was bombed. I know the name of the pub and the location but I wonder if there is a way for me to find out more about the incident. Any help would be great. The local newspapers did not publish any stories as far as I can find (of course not! for security reasons)
Thanks in advance.....
where was the pub and what what its name - if it was south coast there are the books - dover at war - deal at war - romney marsh at war - which all detail daily attacks
st
I hope they found out who had done the dastardly deed and prosecuted them as war criminals.

If you have tried and lucked out with local media you could also always have a go at seeing what records exist at county level that might have originated with the rescue services, ARP, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Guard, police or other agency that might have been involved in the aftermath. But I have found that such research yields best dividend if one hunts down and interviews contemporaries, preferably first. Their information might be suspect factually and fail to corroberate but it normally contains enough "ammunition" to approach an official records search more productively.
thanks for the serious suggestions! ...... - and I too hope that they got the man what done for my grandpaw!
In case anyone out there might have any clues - the pub was "The Rodney Inn" in Gooch Street, Birmingham. My search for the truth about what was REALLY in the beer that night continues .....
In Brum? Try to make contact with Carl Chinn - he will know what's available, and where it is.
