Hi there,
I'm a univeristy music student and I am currently researching for my final year dissertation. The subject I am focusing on is women and jazz during WWII. In America there were over 100 "all-girl" bands formed during the war, and I was wondering if anyone has any information about something similar happening here in Britain?
It would be great to hear from those who remember hearing female jazz bands during the war, or who know anything about ENSA and jazz.
Thanks very much,
Jo
Best known British all-girl band was the one run by Ivy Benson form 1939 until the late 70s? (dates ae suspect). A decent search engine should get you a fair way from there.
Thanks very much, found a good website about her band so just looking through that now
Hello Joey
I'm 81 and remember Ivy Benson's band on radio during war. Don't know much about her but like you would be interested so would you please let me know the website.
Cheers Sappertom (was in REs)
