Hi All
I live in Sheffield, where a B17 bomber crashed with the loss of all its 10 crew in February 1944. It was called Mi Amigo.
A new person has just registered in another part of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ site (h2g2) and told us that he/she is a relative of one of the Mi Amigo crewmen, and about to visit the UK.
He/she would like to donate photographs of the crew to the RAF or local museums or indeed anyone who would cherish them.
Does anyone know about Mi Amigo? Can you put me in touch with organisations who keep her memory?
Hoping for your help
Thanks

Hi Pinniped
I'm from Sheffield, and have visited the exact crashing site(Endcliffe Park), where there is a memorial placque in the woods, just across the stream from the main park, which is also commemorated by members of the USAF every year. Maybe contact them?
It's sadder when one hears that one of the young US airmen, badly wounded and dying in the burning wreckage, warned a curious and shocked schoolkid to get away from the site.
I'm not up to speed on the why's and wherefore's, but wasn't there supposed to be something odd about why the B17 was even in the vicinity? There have been rumours of some 'secret' mission, but maybe that's just myth?

Hi - have you tried the 'history and expats' section of the SHEFFIELD FORUM?
There may be people there who know more - or even be some eye-witneses who use this busy section of the site....
