Did the RAF lose many aircraft due to enemy action in the Korean War.
I am not sure the RAF had substantial forces in Korea.
The main UK air power contribution was from the Fleet Air Arm.
The Hawker Sea Fury doing ground attack, though a least one Mig-15 was shot down as well.
No idea on losses.
I don't think the RAF lost any aircraft, except possibly some Auster AOPs - still RAF in those days.
The only RAF combat squadrons were the Sunderlands of the Singapore Wing, which rotated through Japan for maritime patrol duties.
However, RAF pilots provided about 25% of the aircrew strength of 7 Sqn RAAF, flying Meteors, and others RAF pilots flew attached to USAF squadrons - including Group Captain J E "Johnnie" Johnson.
There were pilot losses, but haven't got the figures to hand.
As SonicBoomer posted, the principal Britsh comabt aircraft contribution was the Air Groups of the Light Fleet Carriers. The first one on station had Seafires (fighters) and Fireflies (bomber/recce/spotter). Subsequent Air Groups had Sea Furies (fighter/fighter bomber) and Fireflies. They also took casualties.
AMP,
I have done a little bit of research, the answer none from what I've found, although the 77th RAAF may produce some interesting research into the Meteor.
AA. (It's not a typo it's the Royal Australian Air Force).
Although the 77th is, its the 7th Squadron, damn these fingers.
AA.
AA - apologies, it was 77 Sqn RAAF.
According to David Lee's "Eastward", the RAF had two Auster AOP.9s shot down (RAF-owned and maintained, but with mainly Army pilots), with the loss of both Army pilots.
An RAF LAC was killed in an Auster that crashed in a river - I think many Austers were lost in accidents.
A Sunderland crashed en route to Hong Kong, with the loss of 14 crew and passengers, but none was lost in combat.
29 RAF pilots flew with 77 Sqn, and 5 were killed. 21 aircrew flew with various USAF units, and five were killed.
(The RAAF lost 40 pilots on 77 Sqn - 30 in combat and 10 in accidents).
I don't know how many RAF aircrew flew with FAA squadrons, but one was killed while flying as an observer.
The FAA had 22 aircrew killed on operations over Korea.
Hope this helps
