What would have happened to the course of WWII if Edward had not abdicated? What would have been the impact of his pro-Nazi leanings on the course of the war? Would Edward have become a patriot or continued to obstinately follow his appeasement inclinations, even to the extent of being a traitor (like the British aristocrats depicted in the film 'Remains of the Day')?

Edward was very Pro. Hitler, and would if he remained on the throne fought tooth and nail to stop us going to war with Germany. When the war started, there was proof he was passing on information to the germans. He DID desert his post when the German army pushed west, and make for the south of France. Anybody else would have been charges with treason for one and desertion for the other. No action was taken against him. I wrote a short story based on the idea that in 1939 we had Edward as King and Mosely as P M

Do you think that the British aristocrats were that anti Germany in the 1930's?

Further actions of Edward: after he left Europe he was posted to the Caribbean as a governor of a colony (Bahamas ?). I read that he tried to make covert contact with the American in 1940 or early 1941 - pre-Pearl Harbour. Apparently he was suggesting that FDR act as intermediary to negotiate a peace treaty between Britain and Hitler. He claimed that if FDR were to publically call for negotiations, he could be back on the throne in a week.

Question - Edward's delusions, high-level conspirators, or British intelligence disinformation program?

    Regards

    Brian
