why sir, we are british. my dear old chap it is simple in its ingenouity. the mere "innate" britishness of the natural inhabitants of this most ardent isle means that it is our God given right and responsibility to go forth and save the natives of all lands from the clutches of perfidious wretches and frenchmen.....
thats what id say if i were alive about 200 years ago
But sir, is not because we proved to simple natives that we were gods. We went to these countries, some that had not seen rain in years. Then we performed a god like act. We took three pieces of wood, and knocked them into the ground. Then a white man took another piece of wood and stood in front of it while another white man took a short run and bowled a ball at him. Before the ball struck the wood, the clouds would open, and the rains would come down. To thesesimple people, this proved that the English are gods.

LOL
And these simple, noble, peoples, taketh up the sacred wood and since that day, betwixt the rain showers they have beateth the cr-ap out of us - as a regular occurence !!
When gods share their power with mere mortals, it comes back to bite you in the backside.
ask the irish about the potato famine - no country is perfect and i would guess that almost every country has done unspeakable acts against another nation or group of people - england as a nation is not better than any other nation !!maybe the u.s.a need to be told too!! if nations treated their fellow countries as equals then conflict would be limited.

England had the sense not to put all her arable land to the 'new' crop from the 'new' world and sat by and watched those who 'knew' better, starve when it failed.
Such is life.
God bless America, and all the lessons we learnt from her.
God bless Napoleon, and his dream of invading the British Isles through Ireland.
Just be grateful the crops failed, the English did nothing, and the Irish joined the Army droves. Hence, Waterloo.
All the best,
Dan
My dear Sir (I take it that by the Horatio, you are a male of the species of humankind),
If all nations treated other nations as equals, then how could any one country/nation lay claim to be superior, and thus be the adjugator of what is right or wrong in all things.
Quote from "Yes, Minister: It would be the end of Civilisation, as we know it!"

Couldn't put it better myself, and God knows I've tried.
I suppose that, given the overwhelming "white guilt syndrome" crippling British society, that it must fall upon a non-British citizen with little British ancestry to point out that you are, in fact, better.

Kurt, I love you, and tip my Bowler to one who see's the need to ensure stability and equilibrium in an ever unstable world.
Good will always triumph. If not, kick some arse.
All the best,
