Hi ST - watching it? On a Mr Murdoch channel then?

Yeah - Burke just missed a pen which would have been a very good early lead but I reckon we'll win it by 6.

forget that prediction I think....but anycase getting back to the original thread I think it's a bit shocking that a lot of people don't know much about St. Georges Day.

It seems to be in Britain that we celebrate St Patricks day more than we do our own national saints although that's probably just an excuse for a piss up.

Just put myself in the mood for a pint now.

    Cheers smiley - ale

Yeah - that worries me a bit that if we do try and make SGD a big thing Carling or some other company will take it over to sell more booze.

and why not ?? - its St Georges day sponsored by Carling

my local has an irish landlord and st patricks day is a BIG day - extension - games etc - but when he did the same for St georges day no one was really interested - i dont think anyone knew what to do!!

i was also listening to the radio on friday and there was a bit about a pub which has extensions for st patricks day but every year has been turned down for st georges day - they took it to higher courts but still got turned down !!

oh dear things arent looking good are they ?? (3-15) but playing better now - looks weird charvis playing for LI

I think you are probably right there - just look what Guinness have done to St Pats Day.

As a Scotsman who has lived in London, I can tell you that the English do celebrate SGD a lot more than Scots celebrate St Andrews day. St Andrews day passes by without hardly a mention in Scotland. Don't know why but Scots celebrate a poet more than they do their own national saint. Saying that - that is also another excuse for a piss up.

Booze seems to be a common thread here or maybe it is just me who has a drink problem!

    smiley - alesmiley - ale

thats true (about st andrews day) - it passes unnoticed - the same as St Davids day
apart from the handing out of leeks to the welsh guards nothing happens (was that the queen mum who did that ??)

o well - perhaps we arent so bad after all

And a happy ha ha ha to you too, sir.

Query: What did dear old Georgie do that rendered him worthy of being named patron saint of Merry England? That tale of his having slain a dragon in order to rescue a fair maiden is something of an exaggeration, surely - not the maiden part (there might have been one such around) - the dragon part).
