Is it cessation of shelling, or resolution of a conflict?
Before humanity had invented shells, mortars and rockets, there were wars.
Peace is, IMO, defined as absence of conflict where humans can live without fear of attack.
War, IMO is exactly the opposite, regardless of what ammunition is used and who is considered the enemy.
A war can be defined as
a)In an active state of conflict or contention.
b)A state of open, armed, often prolonged conflict carried on between nations, states, or parties or
c)A condition of active antagonism or contention

Sorry Leah,
It should read "How do we define an end of a war".
Ali.
Sorry Chelsea,
It should read "How do we define an end of a war".Ali.
The end of hostilities can be defined by an armistice, the end of a war can be defined by many things -
The fact that there is none of your enemy alive.
There is a conditional or un-conditional surrender.
You have completely over-run your enemy.
The end of a war does not automatically result in the end of hostilities, for example a Guerrilla campaign or partisan groups.
