The harrying of Bingley was a laugh as well, and as for the day the army of the north descended on Downing street their horses harnessed with the skins of their enemies. to drag the pretender Blair from his bed and seperate his head from his body at Marble Arch. Well, that was a real hoot!

I always thought the Great War of Bedroomville - Cobra Vs Action Force/GI Joe was pretty cool.
It started with a suprise attack by COBRA forces on an Action Force UN aid convoy which was supplying food to refuges in Bedroomville. Cobra attacked with FANG helicopter gunships and a Rattler strike aircraft (a bit like an A-10).
Action Force fought back and called in a Skystriker jet (something like an F-14) to fight back and whilst covering the aid convoy the pilot spotted Cobra re-enforcements coming over Pillow Hill. Subsequently Action Force gunships attacked the Cobra HISS tanks and they retreated.
Action Force soldiers protected the convoy with anti-armour and anti-air missiles and Cobra retreated leaving a field of casualties.

Sounds fishy to me!?!?!
How about "None of the above!".
It seems really odd that people describe a "best war" to me. Have any of you actually experienced a war? I think not somehow.

Alright DL. perhaps I should have taken it a bit more seriously. But was incredibly difficult, and sadly proved impossible in the end.
I love war! When I was in 'nam I had to once go up this river and there was this bad general with a bald head. I had to kill him but it turned into a sort of introspective journey into the blackness of the human soul.
It was really fun. The sountrack was good too I love the Doors!

you crazy kids with "cobra" this and "Gi Joe" that, i remember the days of Baron Ironblood and his Red Shadows, when only the badly-chewed-by-my-dog-SAS force could save us.
Joking aside when did militaristic toys become unnacceptable? I'm pretty sure schools today wouldn't look kindly on the collection of tanks and toy guns we acumulated when I was a kid.

I think youll find that your getting confused between "Apocalypse Now" which is a film and real life.
In case your wondering the reason you cant watch the t.v hidden in your tummy is the teletubbies were'nt real either
Apocalypse Now was based on my memoirs.
Yeah ok.
Wasn't Kurtz a Colonel, not a General?
I'd vote for the war between the USSR and Berwick upon Tweed! It only just finished a few years ago. The horror the horror.....

Hi Rich,
Hope you're well! I tried that one a while back on this thread. It's the same old sad story, every soldier wants to see a battlefield, those that have seen one, never want to see another.
There is no "best war" with the exception of the USSR/Berwich upon Tweed one- that is a classic. War is just generally nasty (toned down language there), and to be avoided at all costs. For those of you who love it so much, join the forces, go off to war, then come back. I guarantee you will be cured of your longing for it. Then of course, you can spend the rest of your life dealing with the memories it burns into your mind. Hope you'll enjoy it, I didn't.

neither of you have been in a war so how do you know?
You don't need to have been personally in a war to know that it is horrible.
Plenty of people who have had first-hand experience of war have left written accounts of it for posterity. All you need is a little intelligence an ability to empathise and you too can experience its horrors.
In addition, our TV screens are full of the horrors of war. Remember that little girl in Vietnam running along the road away from her burning village. Her arms and back were burned with napalm. She was somebodies sister or daughter. A little imagination and she could be your sister or daughter.
neither of you have been in a war so how do you know?Β
Try the Gulf War, two tours of Bosnia in the early 90s, and nice trip to Northern Ireland.
That's how I know.
Well said DL - the whole concept of this thread is faintly disgusting..
"and the band played Waltzing Matilda,
as they carried us down the gangway,
and nobody cheered, they just stood and stared
and turned thier faces away...."
hiya Dark,
Yeah I'm good, not on the boards so much these days due to work and all but threads like these always get my attention (for good or bad)
and bulbous or whatever ur handle is, Dark has served and whilst I havent I have mnay friends serving or retired from the forces who bewteen them have racked up NI, Bosnia, Kosovo, GW I&II, Afganistan, and presently in Iraq and I have seen how they return from these places. Whilst we all here have a little laugh about wars and the goings on in a war the whole idea of a "best war" is ludicrous. From a historical point of view you could have had topics of most pointless war, autrocities in war, most clinical approach to war (for that i would say GW II) but your whole approach to this topic was to say the least distastefull
I'm adding another one here-
My "Favourite War"....
Any where I wasn't there!!!
The Cod Wars- at least people were not getting hurt.
Surely the fish weren't too happy about it?!!!
