We won perhaps? A similiarity is that it shaped Britain and US's anti insurgency operations and philosophies to this day.
Okay.
It was fought for many years.
It was won, but when?
Why were Australian soldiers needed to fight the war?
We (British and Australians) were good at jungle insurgency.
Does that justify it??
The main reasons for the British success in Malaya in relation to the US's in Vietnam is the different types of insurgency and the different position of the two aforementioned. The Viet Cong benefited from a strong backing from the Vietnamese people, caused by the Americans being portrayed as foreign invaders and the popularity of Communism within the huge rural population. In Malaya, however, the CT did not have the same backing from the population. One reason for this was the ethnic tensions in Malaya, the CT being predominantly composed of the Chinese minority; this was coupled with the Malayan prosperity under British imperial rule.
The British at this time were accepted by the majority of the population, no one social strata contained a substantial opposition to British rule, the main rubber farms and tin mines, the primary source of economic activity in Malaya, was controlled by British businessmen and Britain had a tight control of the Malaya administration. The American only had superfluous relations with Vietnam before the conflict and there was a strong opposition from the people of Vietnam against US military and economic involvement. As you can see, they were two very different circumstances.

Yes
I think also Malaya operated more as a domestic civil conflict, Vietnam had the addition of an international Cold War focus, fears of the 'domino effect', support from China, spread into IndoChina.
Indeed Wollemi, good point, a very influential factor!
