Did you read the book or did you see the film.
Now read the true story on :
The movie is essentially nonsense,
However, many Americans lost their lives during the war.
Many Americans lost bothers, nephews, and cousins, America lost 350,000 to 400,000; in the 2nd world war and the vast majority will never be remembered.
I (as an Australian, I salute the lost Americans); lest we forget or (got mid unds)?
Essentially nionsense?
No offense but WRONG.
as the link clearly shows its a true story.
maybe dramatised a bit but still.
I agree with the rest though.
Isnt it based on a true story - where 3 brothers were killed in the same week ?
There is a rule now in force in the US forces where, if a sibling or parent is killed in a theatre of war any other siblings/parents are sent home -
is there a similar rule in the British Army ??
DIDN@T YOUREAD THE LINK IDIOT?
and I don't know if the rule is true, but its probable.
Didn't realise it was based on a true story.
I thought it was adapted from the US navy that no more than two brothers could serve on a same ship after the Sullivans a family of 5 brothers died on the Cruiser Juneau in the Solomons in 1942. The Sullivans became national heroes and became the subject of a hollywood movie the fighting Sulivans and had a destroyer USS the Sullivans named after them.
Yes. In the film it refers to 5 brothers that died in the revolution. in reality they found out recently that 2 had died, 1 was missing and the other 2 where tax dodging and the mother getting benefits. heh. no ship named after them though...
what have i done wrong ??o sorry - is it me who u r referring too

In the film it also refers to the Sullivans.
The Cruiser Juneau went down in the Second World war, not the Revolution, and the ship was named after them as the previous poster stated
Please refrain from referring to other posters as Idiots, apart from being childish, when considering the mistake youβve just made in not reading Spitfire1940βs reply, well, it says a great deal.
No, never saw the film or read the book. Is either worth the time?? I love Tom Hanks so I might go check it out

Hey I only gave my view, if you consider it childish or idiotic, its your own problem. No offense meant at anyone but its a bit unfair to have a go at my views. after all I didn't have a go at anyones. I simple commented on the plausibleness of their lateral thinking.
oh and also it wasn't the Brothers that Spitfire1940 was talking about, it was the three that 'died' in the american revolution, as explained in the letter read aloud written by A. Lincoln.
, in reply to message 13.

they were only providing their view, which you evidently find idiotic, get off your high horse.
yes .i was looking for audiemurphy
"Hey I only gave my view, if you consider it childish or idiotic, its your own problem" I don't have a problem, I was just pointing out that it can be viewed as slightly hypocritical.
"No offense meant at anyone but its a bit unfair to have a go at my views." I'm having a go at you calling someone an idiot when you make such a glaring error in your reply.
"oh and also it wasn't the Brothers that Spitfire1940 was talking about, it was the three that 'died' in the american revolution, as explained in the letter read aloud written by A. Lincoln" Yes it was, as I've already pointed out to quote from the actual film script of 'Saving Private Ryan';
"All four of them were in the same company in the 29th Infantry but we split them up after the Sullivan brothers died on the Juneau."
This is why we donβt call people idiots for making mistakes, as if that were the case, Iβd be calling you one now.
I hold up my hands and accept. any others big enough to say that too?
