Well, if Nap. hadn't, I would have had to find a whole new subject for the book I am writing. LOL

Then he would have had to come up with a different means of enforcing the continental system and its hard to see what he could have done. Just a theory but the British would probably have stirred up Europe again to attack him, sooner or later.

One of Napoleons mottos was to never fight the same enemy too often as they learn from you and the European armies were slowly improving. If the British could have persuaded Prussia, Austria and Russia to have had another go then I think they could have won anyway, even without the disaster in 1812.

There may have been peace, with France dominating Europe for decades but its more likely, imo, that the tensions would have been too much and Napoleon would not have backed down from another war.

Napoleon had not invaded Russia....and it would be a right idea from his side...but in this case Russians actually have no any dates to celebrate.
Now every year they celebrate the 23 February 1918 as the Men's Day but none of 'em knows what did happen in that day.
I think they celebrate the delivering by the Germans of their final terms for peace to Lenin&Trotsky exactly on 23 February 1918.
Berlin demanded all the territory which its troops had seized in course of WWI...including those they had occupied in the last five days ...from 18 Feb. to 23 Feb.
Dvinsk and Lutsk were immediately captured without resistance. The last remaining R. troops fell apart altogether....and by the 23 Feb. men of General Max von Hoffman had advanced 150 miles. It was much as the whole German army had advanced in the three previous years of fightings. In some sense that date really worth to celebrate .
