Hi there - probably just try Google to look about for websites.
If you want specific ones try these as seacrh criteria -
Royal Flying Corps ( the RAF before 1918)
Field Marshal Haig (should find you lots and lots of sites)
The Schliifen Plan (the plan the German's used to invade France)
Maybe also try the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ history pages on this web-site.
It's such a massive field you'll be on awhile I would imagine.
Good luck anyways,
NewcFalcon.

No worries - what is your assignment about in the main? Is it a Why - what - how - by whom? Or more subject specific?
It's an amazing subject to read about - so much depth in the subject and a lot of material written by the soldiers who were involved in the conflict is avaiable - a lot of accounts are very moving.

Hi there,
tricky subject and not something I'm an expert on - typical man lol - interested in the fighting and not the mothers left behind.
I think you might want to have a look at organistaions websites like the Salvation Army (they might have history details and such) and maybe the Imperial War Museum (they have sections re: the home front).
In my knowledge I've never heard of the social welfare system in WW1 as being as organised as that of WW2 - I do know that a lot of women did volunteer to be nurses and many of these come from more "well to do families".
I do know also that like WW2 many women worked in the armaments factories. One thing that until recently did have an impact of our lives was the Defence of the Realm Act was passed by the government of the day. DORA most famously prohibted pubs from serving alcohol after 11pm so that workers on the early shift next day wouldn't be intoxicated.
