can anyone tell me about route marches or training sessions for ww2!? thank you!!
Consult Stephen Ambrose "Band of Brothers" for a description of training for the 101st Airborne. (American). (In this he is accurate, don't believe his prejudices in other areas).
Or Spike Milligans autobiography for a more down to earth version. (British).
I'm afraid that I can't refer you to any Soviet or German sources.
Cheers AA.
The wartime film "The Way Ahead", starring David Niven, has several scenes depicting training, filmed on real assault courses (but tidied up a bit for the film). Gives a reasonable impression of the sort of thing the training involved.
Hi Jasmine
You could do a lot worse than go to the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Peoples War site (where I've been floating around on for the past two years) and look at their "Raw Recruits & Basic Training)
When you've done that, key in 'Training' into the WWW2 search bar and you'll find many more stories.

In the spring of 1943 the powers that be decided that it would be a good idea if our 2nd (Airborne) Battalion of the Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry was to go to Ilfracombe in North Devon to boost the moral of the factory workers who took their annual holiday there (and at similar coastal resorts).
The problem was that our Battalion was stationed 120 miles away on Salisbury Plain and we Airborne troops possessed little transport.
But our clever leaders solved the problem. The entire Battalion would march to Devon carrying their full (and quite heavy) equipment!
This was achieved over a period of four days i.e a 30 mile march each day.
