Does Anyone have any insight into where I would get records of 'Battle Fatigue' in the Second World War, especially among Irish soldiers who fought with British forces?
At one time, the condition was called "shell shock."
jberie,
In the Great war it was Shell Shock, it was called βBattle fatigueβ in the Second World Warβ¦. Called PTSD nowβ¦

SmegheadRed,
No idea for certain, places to start would possibly be Ministry of Defence, Royal Army Medical Corps, Imperial War Museum?
I'm certain the records exist somewhere. There were definitely psychiatric hospitals around and so I'd expect that some collation of data would have been made. You could try an application under the Freedom of Information Act if they prove unresponsive. (At least then they have to respond). I've no idea how you go about this though.
I'd be less sure that the data is collated by nationality.
Cheers AA.

In Wendy Holden's book 'Shellshock' she mentions several places were people were treated. One was the Tavistock Clinic in London, another, if memory serves, St Thomas's Hospital, also in London (I think it was here that sedation and 'truth drugs' were used as a treatment).
Not sure whether records will have survived though.
Cheers all!
Cheers all!Β
Just read the thread. There is an organisation called 'Combat Stress' whch works with miltary personnel from any conflict who are diagnosed with battle fatigue or ptsd. www.combatstress.org.uk
not sure if that would be of any help in answering your query
