entered the former Pale of Settlement in June 1941?
We are told that many civilian russians indiscriminately got killed. The fact that huge numbers of jews was still living there, would hardly suggest any lowering in the number killed.

I am very interested to know how many jews died on this occasion and whether this number is included in the often cited 6 million figure, that is cited as being the number of jewish victims in the holocaust. And how many russians died all in all, and isn't this an (even worse) holocaust?

    Nick Rowan,

The total number of Russians who died as a result of World War 2 is estimated ( and I repeat estimated ) as being between 20-23 million.

I have seen lower as well as higher figures but this estimate comes forward most of the times.

    Nick-Rowan ,

Actually I should have nmentioned this to you in my previous reply , but if you type Pale of Settlement into Google or Megacrawler , or even log onto Wikipedia you will get some insight into the Jewish way of life in the Pale of Settlement.

It also gives an indication on the number of Jewish deaths during the German occupation.
