hi all hope you can help me shed some light on army numbers. My grandfather served during ww2 (i believe) and his numbers were
873202 70/212
he was a gunman in the royal artiliry???
do these mean anything
sorry to be so ignorant
Thank you
I am not an expert, but I don't think there is any great significance to the numbers. A number would follow a soldier around the army even he changed regiments or even services, from the army to the air force, for example.
Thank you i was just hoping to know if it said what regiment or battery etc so i could find out where he went. But thank you.

If you are really interested, it can help:
The only (I think) thing that number can tell you is confirmation of something you already know - he was definatly not an officer as he had an eight digit (ignore the slash) army number.
thank you all.
