Does anyone have any idea how many veterans are still alive from each of the major nations. The recent 'Last Tommy' documentary listed 4 British survivors. Can anyone say with a degree of accuracy what the figure would be for Germany, France and the USA? Or does anyone have an exact figure for each?

I think I can answer my own question here with this link...
It does make for interesting reading. How do we account for certain countries having more surviving veterans than others, for instance the 22 Italians. Is it diet, lifestyle or sheer luck? You could argue potential surviving troops from mainland European countries [Germany, France, Russia etc] could have died during WW2, but the same could be argued for Italy. Britain, being an island, aside from bombing missed the large scale civilian carnage, so would understandably have a greater chance of having higher numbers of veterans dying of old age rather than as victims of war.
At the last rememberance Sunday their were 9 British survivors?
