i thought this would be better off here rather than on the 'History Hub' messageboard, but i'm not sure i'm going to get an answer:

i've been casually collecting WWII civilian clothing, Demob suits and accessories, with the 'CC41' mark on them for about 20 years...however, on eBay today i saw goverment marked tie and homburgh hat (both items i'd never seen before...i'd always understood that hats were not restricted in the same way as suits and other items of clothing durring WWII?) dated 1944 and 1945 respectively but they didn't have the usual CC41 label, instead they had the 'crows-foot' arrow mark which until today i'd though was only stamped on military items...can anyone enlighten me as too why, as it now seem, in some instances the crows-foot was used intead of the CC41 mark of civilian items also?

    thanks for your time.

    cheers

Iwas a child in WW2 but I can recall the CC mark. I think it was something to indicate that a piece of clothing had been manufactured to a certain standard. It was known as the 'utility mark'. In fact I think it was attached to anything made of material, eg. blankets towels bed sheets etc

thanks very much...but, i know all about the 'utility marks' (and have dozens of items that have it on)...my question was about why some civilian item had not the CC41 but the military 'crows-foot' mark on them?

    best wishes
