The last Tommy Part 1 was a thought provoking film. I was much moved by it. But can anyone tell me what the background music was?
    Thank you.

It's the main theme from the film Schindler's List...all the music in The Last Tommy was taken from this soundtrack. It was a very moving programme wasn't it. Only 4 WWI veterans are still alive in the UK and we really are about to witness the end of an era when the First World War passes out of living memory.

Than you for your prompt reply. I have taken a great deal of interest in WW1 for many years now. It all began whilst researching my family history that discovered I had an uncle who was killed at the Battle Of Vimy Ridge, a great uncle who died on the Somme and another uncle who was wounded but survived. Yes, this war may be passing out of living memory, but we must never forget.

I found the Tommys to be very dignified and humorous and I really enjoyed listening to them.

I just wish the voiceover was as good. Have the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ actually employed someone to write that crap or did they drag someone off the street to do it?

I have recently found out that my Grandad's middle name is Mons because 4 of his elder brothers were killed there in 1914.
If I have son he will have the same name in remeberance.

Watching the last tommy and the cenotaph on sunday makes me proud to be british watching all those veterans, now old and fragile yet still barrel chested and ramrod straight.

    Here's to them!

We owe so much to those that fought and died in both world wars. It is so important that as a nation we do not forget what those brave boys did for us so many years ago. History needs to be taught to the next generation. Their history should not die with them. We should learn from Harry Patch all conflicts are resolved around a table.
