Can anyone tell me who was Secretary of State for War between 1914-1918......Thanks Frank
Frank,
Lord Kitchener was the Minister of War 1914-1918.
I thought Kitchener died in 1916?
Kitchener went down with the HMS Hampshire on the 6 June 1916. Lloyd George took over the office until Dec 1916, when he resigned. He was succeeded by Edward Stanley, 17th Earl of Derby, who served until April 1918. He was succeeded in turn by Alfred Milliner, who served in this capacity up until the TReaty of Versailles, to which he was one of the signatories.

DL, you are absolutely right by saying that Kitchener died in 1916.
But I had not finished the postand was going to mention 1914-1918 war ,but then drowned on his return from Russia etc , when suddenly the whole message disappeared.
Anyway it was mentioned in the follow up post.
Thanks for that.
I see!
Thought it was an odd slip for you Dirk, you are always spot on with your dates!!!
Cheers
DL
