Does anyone know of any good literature on the great captain general?
Or the British army at the start of the 18th century, including blenheim?

There is a perfectly servicabler joint biography of John and Sarah by Christopher Hibbert.
The recently deceased Dr David Chandler wrote several book on him. There is also a new book due soon from Pen & Sword with eyewitness accounts in it. Try a specialist outlet like Caliver Books - their lists are by author, but they are very helpful if you email them.
Let's not forget Winston Churchill's massive (1 million word) biography, recently re-issued in 2 volumes.
It probably lacks a certain objectivity - and has been the origin of the wiping away of the great Prince Eugene of Savoy in British accounts. Spencer's book on Blenheim is no better.
