Are there currently any para-military groups in England? If so what do they hope to achieve?
I don't know. I'm sure some of the far right and far left have, for lack of a better term, 'muscle' but I don't think there are any large para military groups on the British mainland. Why? thinking of joining one? lol
do you mean just based in England or actual English Para-Militray groups, like the Mercian Popular Front or the Northumbrian Peoples Popular Front??

I meant based in England. It's strictly illegal of course so i just wondered if any somehow managed to exist.
The French national party have got a 'defense unit' which is basically a group of para-military thugs. What about England?
Well there is organisations like Combat 18 and other organised gangs linked to the BNP and related parties.
Also the Hells Angels groups have had a long association with being "for hire" defensive units
The difference here in the UK is that we don't have a particular history for this sort of activity, at least not in the organised way you are sugesting.
Our "defensive units" as you put it are far more likley to be footbal holigans than ideological fighters
Wouldn't it in part depend on what you term para-military. After all during 1940 I think one of the things the Nazis were planning to take action against was the boy scouts. Furthermore, given Baden-Powell's background and the mood of the time they started, with concern about the need for a stronger military, I think they may have had a point. That is I think BP planned on them as providing activities which would teach discipline and organisation and potential prepare youths for military service.

(For example, the Police and Fire and Rescue Services in England could be described as a para-military group, although not by me!)

Thanks AA.
