I am trying to trace a death certificate for Ethel Constance Mundy bn 1909 Hampton Hill, Middlesex. Parents Minnie and Cecil Mundy. Tried 1837online.com and ancestry.com. Pretty sure she is buried Teddington Cemetary but they have no reord. She died at a young age,I have a photo of her age 4 and a half but nothing later. Any help to get me past this brick wall appreciated

Hi, Have you checked spelling variations, such as Monday, you would be surprised what they made out of names, my great, great grandfather was William Bayliffe in 1841, 1861 he became Bailey, back to Bayliff in 1881 and Isabel, on this board, found his family in 1871 under Bell, its no wonder we can't find them, is it? Best wishes, Jean

Hello Jean
Thanks for the info, I have checked on Ancestry.com for spelling variants but not on 1837online. I suppose the next step might be Parish Records altho' I have no experience in that area.

Hi KL,
I've just looked through 1925 on 1837, but couldn't see her. I've been trying to find her family in the census, do you know was her father Cecil Alfred born 1879 and her mother Minnie Constance Roberts?, married in 1904?, best wishes, Jean

Hello Jean
Yes you have the correct details. If only we had a rough idea when she died it would help. Parents and siblings are dead so no way to get info. Thanks for trying

Hi KL, Are you certain she died so young?, I had a similar one in my family, my mother told me her auntie died about 1 years old, because she never knew her, but it turned out she was 30 when I eventually found her. Best wishes, Jean

Hello Jean
Well of course we cannot be sure she died young but she is not on any family photographs after about 1913-14.
By the way where did you find her parents marriage etc, I have the certificate so I know it's correct.
I will not give up hope on Ethel, it took a while to find her birth cert.
Have still further mysteries to uncover on Cecil's side. His mother died in childbirth giving birth to twins on 14th Feb 1881, I have found one child Archibald Vincent but not the other. All very frustrating at times. Thanks
KL

Hi,
My impression from reading the messages and replies is that you may be trying to do this using the on-line databases. Have you searched through the journals either at the FRO in Farringdon or the microfiche records at your local county library?
The on-line records are very useful but they run 'out-of-date' at around 1920, depending on the registration district. Thereafter, trying to locate the parish records is unlikely to help you as these are generally not available to the public. (Parish records are, though, essential in researching pre-1800). Essentially, each parish church completes it's certification (birth/death/marriage) and posts these to the local registration office. In turn these are compiled with other local records and deposited, for public viewing, either at the FRO or at local county libraries.
It appears to me that your best way forward may be to spend time either at the FRO or county library searching through the records.
I wish you luck

I suggest you tried the following website: www.familysearch.org/
Go to their search facilities and try their "All recources" section. You might come up with something.
Failing that you can try: www.freebmd.rootsweb.com/
Good luck

Hello Jean
Yes I have found them on all the census. Cecil was a seaman, I have his naval records. It would appear my next step might be the County Library, having never searched on microfiche before it could prove interesting !!

Hello Loftyowl
Thanks for the info, will try the library first, is it difficult to search on the microfiche ? ie do you have to search a certain way. New to this but finding it very addictive.

It's dead easy. Making a cake is more difficult.
The local archive library to me have some extremely helpful people and I am sure that other libraries also have people willing to help and show you the ropes. Just tell them that you need to be shown how to use the equipment, and I bet a number of hours later that you'll have to be pulled away - laden, no doubt with loads of new data.
I would personally recommend going to the Family Records Office (FRO) in Farringdon, where the data is able to view in huge journals. There are usually loads of people around, all busy with their searchs, and all willing to pass on advice and tips.
Hope that helps

Hello Loftyowl
Thanks, Think I will try Library first. You make the FRO sound very interesting, guess curiosity will make me visit there too.

I have found her at last. Called Teddington cemetery, they were very helpful. The surname was spelt Mundey, a transcription error !! I am now trying to find her Grandfathers birth certificate, Richard William Roberts bn Hamptonwick between 1850 and 1855 (various dates given in the census) he died in 1938 age given as 87 on his death certificate. I have searched Ancestry.com, 1837 on line etc but no luck, any other suggestions please.
