One of my Ancestors shows up on the Family search site as George Graham Christened 8th July 1812 birthplace; Libberton Lanark, Scotland. On the Scotlands People site there is absolutely no sign of him on the Baptisms ? Father John Graham and Mother Janet Watson.

Any clues ? According to Scotlands People they don't have a record ?

Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Have you carred out the search correctly? I have just carried out a test search for George Graham from 1 Jan 1812 to 31 Dec 1812, all parishes and apparently there are six matches.

Are you positive about his parents names? The reason I ask is because with those names entered in the search nothing is found.

I am 100% sure of his Father being John Graham as i have George Graham's marriage certificate.
On the family site the christening is clearly there and parents are John Graham and Janet Watson !! It's clearly a no show on the Scotlands People site, i've checked out all the entries and the parents don't match !!
    However..
Just to confuse the issue further there is a Guye Graham on the Scottish site with parents as above and the birth of Guye is the same as George's christening and i actually applied for the baptism entry which i have.
Which is all very well, perhaps Guye changed his name to George....if so why is there a christening entry on the Family Search site with above parents.....................NIGHTMARE !!!!!
Sometimes this family history lark sends you round the twist !!!
    Thanks Isobel for your time.

What sort of record is it on familysearch? Is it an IGI entry or is a submission? Just a thought but the index is unreliable at times and the patron entries or submissions are sometimes a work of pure fantasy.

Guye could have changed his name to George.

Do you have the names of any of his siblings? Perhaps these could be used to try and solve the mystery.

Yes i've been down that road and they have parents John Graham and Janet Watson which unfortunately doesn't help me with the Guye/George dilemma !!
The family search is IGI and i understand there are errors and i've come across some real clangers along the way !!
    Thanks again.

Scotland's People only includes records of the Church of Scotland, so I would suggest you try and find out from a Family History Centre where the infromation came from.
