Advice needed on ordering microfilm, i found a reference on the Family site.
What info can be learnt from actually having the microfilm, that isn't mentioned on the site ?

Where is the best place to order it from ?

Can it only be viewed in a library ?

Is Microfilm the same as microfiche ?

Can it be ordered in hard copy ?

Where do i find a local LDS place to order it from ?

Its actually a Scottish christening which unfortunately does not appear on the Scottish site so i can't order a copy from them

    Lots of questions here

    Need help basically.
    Thanks

The films/fiches are an actual 'photograph' of the original records, in your case the parish records. The original records are sometimes are mine of extra information and are obviously more accurate than the IGI itself as that is a transcription, so errors do occur.

The clergy often entered extra information on the registers such as the age at baptism or the parents names. It depends upon the incumbent.

Fiche is a flat sheet, film is film as in a roll of! In terms of quality the fiche are often superior because you don't tend to get scratches from where the film has been rolled on.

Go to the familysearch site, click 'Library'. Scroll to the bottom of the page and you will see a link ' Click here to locate the nearest family history center,', click and then search for your nearest centre.

You can then call them and order the film once you have the correct order reference from the Library sub site. You cannot purchase hard copies and can only view the films in the LDS centre.

It is worthwhile remembering that many of the smaller centres only open a few hours per week because they are run by volunteers. So if you get a continuous ringing tone and no pick up, try calling every day at different times. perseverance has it's own rewards!

Good luck. I thoroughly recommend this method of research because you can obtain films for different types of records for all around the world. Oh yes, and it's cheap!

I hope this answers all your questions.
