Hi my grandfather was Stephen Francis Torrance born in 1902 East Horsley Surrey, he had three sisters, Irene Ellen, Florence Emily and Marjorie Ida. There Father was Stephen Torrance who married an Ellen Gale. Stephen Torrance's father was William Torrance. I believe William died before Stephen grew up. I believe Irene Ellen married a New Zealander, by the surname of Andrews, who was here during WW1 and they emigrated to New Zealand and had 3 children, Phylis, Joan and Bill, who was a prisoner of war in WW2. Any help would be really great as I am now at a dead end. I cannot even find out when Stephen Torrance was born!
Many Thanks to anyone who can help!! smiley - smiley

    Hi Spike
I don't know what William did I am afraid. I know that Stephen was a Groom/Coachman, I think he was in this trade because of the family he lived with after his Father died. I will have to contact my elderly second cousin and see if she can shed any light on this matter!! Thanks for the info, much appreciated

    Hi Nickybug,
The above Stephen Torrence's occupation is given as Coachman / Groom on the 1901 census. Also the William Torra(e)nce I have in mind had a daughter Jessie E born abt. 1860 in St.Pancras.
    Regards
    Spike

    Hi Spike,
I'm afraid I don't know! I can't even locate the birth certificate for Stephen Torrance, although I could get the death certificate - I have a photo of his gravestone (found in my late Grandmothers old photos) with the date he died. I have managed to find the district, volume and page number so could get the death certificate - do you think it could be worth a try, would it give me anymore information to go on?
    Regards
