I,m interested to trace my family history. My grandfatherJoseph Dempster was born in West Derly and Foxteth Park in the district of Everton in the county of Lancaster in 1874. His father was Charles Dempster and his mother was Margaret Dempster formaly Gregory. Their address was 63 Prince Edward street Everton. For some reason (health?) he was sent to Scotland and lived with a Mc Kechnie family, having little contact with his parents and later joined a skottish regiment to fight the boers in South Africa and married one of the boers daughters.I would like to know if my grand father had brothers and sisters and what were their names. I have just meet a bill Dempster who looks just like my grandfateher?.
Hi, How sure are you with Joseph's birthdate, only I found a family in the 1881 census with a Joseph aged Two living with his parents Charles born 1850 in Liverpool and Mary born 1847 in Scotland, there were two other children, Charles John age 8 and Elizabeth age 7 months, the address was 13, Brown's building, Everton, Liverpool, could this be him?
There is a Charles and Margaret Dempster living in Everton in 1891 (RG12/2950 folio 120 page 19):
Charles Dempster 40 No Occupation born Ireland
Margaret Dempster 46 Milliner born Scotland
Charles Dempster 13 born Liverpool
Elizabeth Dempster 11 born Liverpool
Tom Dempster 8 born Liverpool
Regards
Bill
I've just checked the 1881 census and the original says:
Charles Dempster 31 Shipping Clerk born Liverpool
Margaret Dempster 34 born Scotland
Charles John Dempster 3 born Liverpool
Joseph Dempster 2 born Dempster
Elizabeth Dempster 7 months born Liverpool
Regards
Bill
In the 1901 census found the following at The Royal Artillery Barracks at Woolwich, London :
Charles Dempster 24 Soldier (Gunner)born Liverpool
Regards
Bill

I have a copy of his birth certificate(Joseph) that states
11 March 1879.The one thing I failed to mention was his fathers(Charles) occupation was a shipping clerk. What you found interests me and i'm going to investigate futher, Thanks again Regards Cyril
Thanks Tom for the information, I think this might be them, like the next message by Bill I am
resonable sure with a little more investigation I could confirm this. You have given me a lot to think about. Thanks Cyril
Hi Bill, Thank you for answering my query, the age is right except I think Charles was the second son. The first son Joseph joined a Regiment
in Scotland. This regiment was posted to South Africa.Im not sure what year. I need to read some history. Thanks again I realy appreciate your answer. Regards Cyril
