are there any other online census' for 1871-1891 except www.Ancestersonline.com. You have to pay Β£30 to join it and view the info.

The 1881 census is totally free at www.familysearch.org
Otherwise have you tried www.ancestry.co.uk ? They have much cheaper deals including free trials, though you have to give credit card details. They are entirely trustworthy and I find a subscription is invaluable. They have all censuses from 1851 - 1901, BMD records and a lot more besides.
Hi,
I agree with Anisel** 100% when you think what you may have to spend getting to the various Family History Centres around the country to view census returns. Also I have never had any problems with card security either.

For 1871 try 1837online.com, a number of places like Cornwall have the indexes (but not the images)listed online and are often done by local family historians which make them good and are free.
As stated above the 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891, 1901 and a small sample of the 1851 census are available on ancestry.com. This costs Β£30 per quarter but I think you get the first month free, can cancel anytime and I have found it totally invaluable. In fact I have to drag myself away from it.
The 1841 census for certain counties is available on britishorigins.com. Again this is a subscription style service.
The 1861 census for certain counties is available on 1837online.com. This is a great website and is pay per view. It also has all the BMD indexes 1837-2002. However, it pays to have some idea of what you are looking for here as aimless browsing can end up costing a bit of money. I tend to use the service if I have a good rough idea of the date of the event and the people involved.
As stated above many local history sites will have their own census records transcribed. A search engine should help you find these.
FreeCEN is a good website containing free-to-view census data. Only disadvantages to the site are no images, and the database is limited. Benefits to the site are its free, easy to use, and the database gets updated every couple of weeks.
Another good website is Census Finder, which has links to census records.
FreeCEN
Census Finder
Go to www.rootsweb.com people will do census look ups for you for free. also genealogy.com general forum. have a look . if you post message for a look up you will get responses.
You could try familyhistoryonline.net. They have some counties census's and other documents to browse.
Good Luck
Jo
